File discovery for supported public links

Download a thumbnail from a public webpage

Find supported thumbnail metadata exposed by a public webpage and download the accessible thumbnail asset.

Local-first when practical. Secure server analysis only when needed.

Ready for a link

Thumbnails are preview images attached to an article, video or share card. This page looks for eligible public preview artwork and keeps that purpose distinct from collecting every image in a gallery.

A preview is a different asset from the original media

Webpages may publish an Open Graph image, a video poster, a card thumbnail or an ordinary cover picture. These are designed to represent other content; they are not proof that the underlying video, article attachment or original-resolution image is downloadable.

  • Inspect a public video's poster image
  • Review a page's social share card picture
  • Check a publisher-provided preview before linking a page

How preview discovery works

URLPull examines supported public page references associated with thumbnails or covers. It can identify a candidate only when a public asset URL is actually exposed and accessible. Preview metadata may be missing, contradictory or stale.

Dimensions and image quality expectations

A share card might be cropped, optimized or delivered in several sizes. The thumbnail is not guaranteed to match the source photo or be suitable for high-resolution print. Respect source metadata and actual file headers.

Practical preview quality assurance

Publishers use thumbnails to make links recognizable in messages and search previews. Checking that a public thumbnail loads can reveal broken references after a redesign without scraping the underlying content.

Protected provider thumbnail boundaries

URL recognition may succeed for a platform that does not authorize public media downloads. That recognition is not a license to extract restricted media, and no account-level permissions are used in this generic tool.

When no poster can be found

The page might omit Open Graph or poster metadata, set a private origin, or generate previews through JavaScript. Use Download Images from Website for all ordinary public image references rather than treating arbitrary illustrations as thumbnails.

Questions specific to this tool

Is a thumbnail the full-size original photo?

Usually not; a thumbnail is a preview variant and may be compressed or cropped.

Can I use this to obtain a restricted video?

No. Finding public preview artwork does not provide access to the video's bytes.
